Installing & Running 1stBase |
Make sure you have the latest upgrades to your operating system:- Windows 2000 needs Service Pack 2, which can be found on the CD in the SerPacks\Win2k directory. For other versions of windows use the Windows Update option on your Start menu. |
Are you using Windows 2000? |
If so make sure you’re logged on with Administrator rights. (There are other factors involved with making 1stBase run on a Windows 2000 machine – see further down...) |
Start Setup... |
The program should start automatically when you insert the CD. If not then you probably haven’t got auto run enabled. In this case do this:- 1. Click Start and then Run 2. Type in the following D:\SETUP (assuming D: is your CDROM drive letter. If not substitute the correct letter). 3. Click OK |
Set the Installation Parameters |
The installer will ask you to select the install type. The options are:- a. Stand Alone PC – a PC that is not networked (or a networked PC that will run 1stBase in isolation). b. WorkStation – a networked PC with the data on another PC c. Server – a networked PC that holds data only. d. Server & WorkStation – a networked PC that holds data and will run 1stBase. NOTE: On a network install Server or Server/Workstation FIRST. 1stBase will verify that the data directory exists when it installs Workstation versions. |
Continue Setup... |
Now click 'Continue' The rest of the installation should now continue automatically. |
Starting 1stBase |
Once 1stBase is installed click Start, Programs, 1stBase to run the program. |
When To Use The KeyDisk |
1stBase will ask for the KeyDisk the first time you run it. Place it in the floppy disk drive and click OK to continue. You can remove the Key back to the KeyDisk from the Maint Menu |
Notes for Windows 2000 and NT Workstation |
If you’re using Windows 2000 or NT on NTFS then 1stBase will only install for use by an administrator or member of the Administrators group. This is because NTFS employs a security setting for each file on the system. Files installed to the WINNT\System32 directory are accessible to Administrators by default, other users do not automatically get even read rights. We’re sorry if this gives you a headache – this is just the way NTFS is designed. In order to make 1stBase accessible to non-Administrative users you must reset the security settings on the following files to give read access to members of the Users group (or ‘everybody’). ASYCFILT.DLL COMCAT.DLL COMCT332.OCX COMDLG32.OCX DAO350.DLL DGUARD2.OCX EXPSRV.DLL GRID32.OCX IC32.DLL IC32.INI MFC40.DLL MSCOMCT2.OCX MSCOMCTL.OCX MSHFLXGD.OCX MSJET35.DLL MSJINT35.DLL MSJTER35.DLL MSMAPI32.OCX MSRD2X35.DLL MSREPL35.DLL MSSTDFMT.DLL MSVBVM60.DLL MSVCRT.DLL MSVCRT40.DLL OLEAUT32.DLL OLEPRO32.DLL PGRUL.OCX SCRRUN.DLL SPIN32.OCX STDOLE2.TLB TABCTL32.OCX TX_BMP32.FLT TX_HTM32.DLL TX_RTF32.DLL TX_TIF32.FLT TX_WMF32.FLT TX_WORD.DLL TX32.DLL TX4OLE.OCX TXOBJ32.DLL TXTLS32.DLL VB5DB.DLL VB6STKIT.DLL VBAJET32.DLL WNDTLS32.DLL The CD contains a batch file EVERYONE.BAT that will reset the permissions for the above files so that everyone has read access. You can find it in the Permissions folder. |
